At the end of the 1980’s professors from the University of Oviedo in Asturias, began to arrive to the area to study the brown bear. They partnered with the Brown Bear Foundation to study its habitat as it was in danger of extinction.
They came to our house to inquire about the bears, as our elder brother had a flock of goats and he had met bears several times in the mountains.
As they needed a place to stay and be able to observe and study the bears, our parents offered them room, food and shower. Following the publication of their studies in magazines such as Rural Tourism and the sunday of the Newspaper “El País”, travellers from all over Spain began to arrive at our establishment each summer.
We were the pioneers in the valley in offering facilities and a warm welcome to the tourists and so was born what today we call our Rural Tourism project, which includes the hostel, restaurant and Camper Area.
